A Quick Guide to Hypnotherapy

Quick Guide to Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy can be very helpful if you suffer from anxiety, low confidence, insomnia, phobia’s and many other issues. In this quick guide, you'll learn how it can quickly bring relief and help you.

Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years. From ancient Egyptian times even through today, hypnotism has been used in medicine, religion, medicine, therapy, marketing and even entertainment. People often undergo hypnosis to help release stress or to overcome certain challenges in their lives such as insomnia, depression, smoking phobia’s and other conditions.

Hypnotherapy has similarities to psychotherapy, though in hypnotherapy the client is in a state of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is designed to help modify the patient's behaviour, attitude, and emotional state for positive life changes. It is solution focussed and relief can be found quite quickly by comparison. Hypnotherapy should only be performed by a professional hypnotherapist.

It is also possible to hypnotise yourself, so you can benefit from hypnotherapy whenever you need. A Hypnotherapist can train you how to do this or you can follow an online workshop such as our Self Hypno School.

What Happens During Hypnosis?

Before the actual hypnosis starts, the client and hypnotherapist must agree to the aims of the session and the client should ask any questions and have the process explained to them. Hypnosis cannot be forced on anyone.

There will usually be an informal talk between the two with questions and answers as well as an explanation of what will happen.

Next is the actual hypnosis. The hypnotherapist leads with their voice to gently guide the patient into a state of focused relaxation in mind and body.

The patient may appear to be asleep, but is awake enough to be aware of what's going on - especially in the parts of the mind that can create beneficial changes. The patient is led into their imagination, daydreaming useful visualisations to help change unhelpful beliefs. Sometimes the hypnotherapist will have a conversation with the client and will ask questions.

When under hypnosis, the patient often feels very relaxed. It's similar to the warm comfort of a bed when one is very sleepy. The client can stop the session at any time they want.

And when the session ends, the client is able to ask questions and discuss the experience of hypnosis.
